Dear All,
Enclosed please find a
list of topics for this year’s Project Work.
You will note that
there are two sets of topics –one to do with discourse issues applied to the
set books or to media topics and another one for exploring language issues
though the media. It’s up to you to decide on your topic of choice but you’re
expected to choose one from the list given and by no means change it or
introduce any other subject.
You will notice, too,
that some of these have already been taken (Topics 5, 6, 26 and 32). These have
been highlighted, because they’re no longer available. Let me remind you that
no overlapping is allowed and therefore topics will be assigned on a
first-come-first-served basis.
Students are expected
to break up into groups of 6 to 8 people
and send in the project number, title and group members entered on the grid
below:

Teamwork will require
students to:
·
read the
material available, focusing on the topic chosen;
·
design a
plan for group search and analysis;
·
draw an
outline of the analysis and an summary of provisional conclusions;
·
hand in both
the outline and the summary by September 9th, 2016;
·
choose a
date for their presentation to take place during October;
·
submit the
date chosen to me.
While projects can be
presented in the tutorials, I kindly request you -as far as possible- to book your
presentations for Monday or Friday lectures. Presentations should take a
maximum of 30 to 40 minutes, at a rate of 3 to 5 minutes per student.
Below please find the
dates for you to choose from:

As for reference
material, we expect you to follow the course approach and use basically the recommended
bibliography. If at any point you feel you need additional material, we will be
glad to give you guidance and/or suggest other readings.
Project work and oral
presentation make the oral component of coursework evaluation so all students
must go through it in order to pass their coursework. Groups will hand in their
project summary and presentation outline on the day of their presentation.
There will be no further written requirements.
I suggest you profit
from the winter break and get started. And have a good time, too!
With best wishes,
Ana Moldero
